2 Things To Think About When Choosing Your Well Pump

Posted on: 12 December 2016

Trying to figure out what kind of well pump you should put in your well is a big decision. You want to make sure that you can easily get your water from the well into your house, otherwise, your well is completely useless. There are several things that you need to think about when it comes to choosing a well pump.

Well Depth

Before you start choosing which kind of jet pump to get for your well, you are going to need to know how deep it is. If you aren't sure how deep it is, there is an easy way to figure it out. All you need to do is to have some fishing line with a lead fishing lure attached. What you are going to do is drop the line down into your well. Keep feeding the line down into the well until you can't feel the weight on the line anymore. Depending on how much the weight you chose weighs, you may have to pay careful attention. A heavier weight will make it easier for you to tell when you hit the bottom. You may not only feel the lack of weight on the line, you may also be able to feel vibrations from when the weight hits the bottom. When the line does hit the bottom, mark the line. You can either just use a marker to color the line or tie something on it. Pull the line up and measure it to figure out how deep your well is.

Well Distance

Another thing you are going to have to think about is how far your well is from your house. The further the distance, the stronger the pump is going to have to be. That's not the only thing that you are going to have to worry about. You also want to think about whether or not your water is going to have to go uphill to get to your house. You may have your well very close to your house, but if it's an uphill climb all the way, it's not going to matter a lot if it's close.

Keeping in mind different variables that can affect what kind of well pump you should put in your well will help you to make the right decision. If you are still confused as to which kind of pump you should use, you can always ask the people who installed your well and they will be able to give you some good suggestions.
