Buying Your First Home With An HVAC Unit? 2 Signs It Needs To Be Serviced

Posted on: 26 December 2019

If you are buying your first home, there are many things you may not know about yet. One of these things could be the AC unit. This is a complex machine that runs well as long as you have it regularly maintained, such as twice per year. You should know signs you should watch for that tell you the AC unit needs to be serviced. This can save you a lot of money as repairing some problems quickly can prevent more expensive problems later on. Below is information about two signs so you will know when it is time to contact an HVAC company.

Rooms Not the Same Temperature

As long as a room has a vent register, the temperature should be the same throughout your home. If you walk into a room and it feels much hotter or colder, there is a problem.  One common problem that can cause this is airflow is out of balance for the rooms in your home. An air conditioning unit can check the airflow for each room and adjust the airflow as needed. The contractor will reduce the airflow for the room that has a different temperature. Once they do this, the airflow will be normal and the temperature should be the same. This is an inexpensive repair and will not take an HVAC contractor long to fix.

Thermostat Shows the Wrong Temperature

If there are problems with your thermostat, it will cause your home to not heat or cool properly. This could be a bad sensor inside the thermostat, or the thermostat may need to be replaced. This is especially true if the current thermostat is old. Newer thermostats are much more advanced. For example, you can preset the temperature to come on at certain times of day, such as turning off the AC unit during the day and set it to come on an hour before you get home. This is known as a programmable thermostat and can help you save money on your energy bills each month.

In some cases, the sensor can be replaced very quickly if you do not want to purchase a new thermostat for your home. This is an easy repair for an experienced HVAC contractor.  When you contact an HVAC company to have your HVAC unit maintained, the HVAC contractor can give you much more information. The contractor can also tell you of other signs to watch out for in the future for other problems the HVAC unit may have. Look for someone who provides air conditioning services to learn more.
